It’s time to let the Ontario government know that convenience stores have been waiting a long time and are ready to responsibly sell beverage alcohol.

Allowing beverage alcohol sales in Ontario convenience stores supports small businesses, keeps a promise, and provides Ontarians the convenience they want.

Local businesses need it. Ontarians want it. The government promised it. We're ready.

Dear Premier Ford and Minister Bethlenfalvy:

The time has come to expand beverage alcohol to convenience stores. Not only because it was a promise made in the last election, but because it supports small business. 

Having the ability to offer new products, like beverage alcohol, will allow store owners to innovate and spur economic recovery. Late last year, your government did something similar for restaurants by allowing the sale and distribution through take-out or delivery. This change has been met with positive reviews and was made permanent. Modernizing alcohol laws is good for businesses and consumers.

Just like restaurants, small businesses – including the province’s convenience stores, craft breweries, and distillers – have been hit hard by the pandemic. These small, Ontario-owned and operated businesses are located in every single community and can play a vital role in our economic recovery post-COVID.

Most importantly, it will give consumers convenience and choice. We know that the majority of Ontarians support beverage alcohol in corner stores as consumers seek out convenient options from local stores.

Allowing beverage alcohol sales in Ontario convenience stores supports small businesses, keeps a promise, and provides Ontarians the convenience they want. Now is the time.
